For Individuals: There are many opportunities to get involved as an individual.

Garden Work:

We take volunteers between April 15th and September 30th in the gardens, either at scheduled workdays or independently. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator to find out exact dates and times. For current Garden Work opportunities, click here.

Working with Youth:

Between October 1st and December 1st, as well as between February 1st and May 30th, YFMP offers many afterschool activities and classes, generally between the hours of 3pm and 6pm, Monday through Thursday. Generally we need 1-3 volunteers per class. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator to find out exact dates and times in the different neighborhoods. For current Youth opportunities, click here.

Special Events:

YFMP offers several special events each year that require larger numbers of volunteers. Harvest Festivals occur each August, usually the third week. There are other special events as well, contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information. For current Special Event opportunities, click here.

For Corporate Groups, School Groups, and Other Groups:

YFMP relies heavily on volunteer groups for starting and maintaining our urban farms. The gardening season runs May 1st through October 1st. We welcome groups of 5-20 people for workdays ranging from 2-3 hours.

Work may include: digging beds, moving compost, transplanting small plants from the greenhouse, garden clean-up and brush removal, making new beds, and more. Workdays are available on Thursdays and Fridays anytime between 8am and 6pm, and on Saturdays anytime between 9am and 2pm. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule your workday.

Phil Rooney, our Lyndale Program Director, also serves as our Volunteer Coordinator. He can be reached at phil@youthfarm.net or 612.872.4226. If you would like to be added to our Quarterly Volunteer Email list, please email Phil directly with your name and email address and that you would like to be added to the list.
